7 Reasons to Book a Christmas Mini Shoot at Willow Grange Farm

If you are looking for Christmas family photos in Cambridgeshire, my Christmas mini shoots at Willow Grange Farm are back again.

Every year, I look forward to photographing families in different corners of this lovely little farm. The open-sided barn, old timber beams, stone walls, warm fairy lights and Christmas tree make it such a beautiful setting for festive photographs. It is rustic, cosy and full of character, with a slightly different feel from a traditional Christmas studio.

But the setting is only part of the story. Here are seven reasons why a Christmas mini shoot might be just what you are looking for this year.

1. A beautiful setting with plenty of character

There is something special about the old barns at Willow Grange Farm. The exposed wooden beams, aged stonework, vintage leather sofa and warm Christmas lights create a relaxed, rustic backdrop that doesn’t need much else.

It is a setting with its own personality, and one that works beautifully for family photographs. If you love natural textures, darker, warm tones and something a little different from the usual Christmas backdrop, you will feel right at home here.

2. Natural photographs of your family

You don’t need to know how to pose and your children certainly don’t need to sit perfectly still or smile on command.

My approach to photography is all about capturing people naturally, with a little guidance where needed. There is room for those lovely photographs of everyone together but also for the cuddles, laughter, little glances and individual personalities that make your family yours.

The aim is to create photographs that feel like you, rather than a collection of poses that could belong to anyone.

3. A sheltered setting for a winter photoshoot

Late autumn and winter weather can be unpredictable, which is one of the lovely things about having the barn as our setting. The open sides retain that outdoor feel while offering some shelter from the elements.

With the rustic surroundings and warm festive lights, it makes a lovely place to take a little time out from the busy season leading up to Christmas and capture some photographs together.

Of course, it is still an open sided barn, so do dress for the weather and bring an extra layer if needed.

4. Photographs you will treasure long after Christmas

Children change so quickly. The little expressions, the way they cuddle into you, their favourite smile and all those details that seem so ordinary right now become the things you wish you could hold on to a little longer.

A Christmas mini shoot is a chance to capture your family as it is today. Not just for this year’s Christmas cards, but for the photographs you’ll look back on in years to come.

And while Christmas is a lovely excuse to get everyone in front of the camera, these photographs don’t have to come down when the decorations do.

5. Perfect for Christmas cards and thoughtful gifts

If you have been meaning to update your family photographs, this is a lovely opportunity to do it before Christmas.

Use your images for Christmas cards, print them for grandparents, add them to your family album or choose a favourite to frame at home. A photograph of everyone together is a simple but meaningful gift, especially for family members who don’t get to see you as often as they would like.

And you won’t have to search through your phone for a photograph where everyone happens to be in the same picture!

6. Parents belong in the photographs too

It is often one parent who takes the photographs, which means they’re missing from so many everyday family memories.

You deserve to be in the pictures too. Not just on birthdays or special occasions, but alongside your children, sharing the little moments that make up family life.

A mini shoot gives you the opportunity to get everyone together for a few photographs you’ll be glad to have. And don’t worry if being in front of the camera isn’t usually your thing. You don’t need to feel particularly confident or know what to do, that’s my job to help with.

7. A little moment together in the middle of the Christmas rush

Those weeks before Christmas can become a long list of things to do, places to be and presents to organise. Taking a little time out to do something together can be a welcome change of pace.

The mini shoots are short and focused, making them a lovely option if you want professional family photographs without booking a full length session. You can come along, enjoy the experience and leave with photographs that capture this little chapter of your family’s story.

And perhaps, over the years, coming back for a Christmas photograph will become a tradition of your own.

+1 reason! Make a little day of it (with a treat on us!)

One of the lovely things about visiting Willow Grange Farm is that there is a lot more to enjoy than just your photoshoot. With a café and farm shop offering lots of good food, you can make a little outing of it. And we have a little treat included for you: when you book a Christmas mini shoot, you’ll receive a free tea or coffee when you buy any sweet treat at the café. So why not stop for a slice of cake, have a browse around the farm shop and enjoy a little festive outing together? It’s the perfect excuse to slow down and make a morning or afternoon of it.
